My cats drug out the cat wand teaser and chewed it's feathers up, so now it's scrawny. Is there anyway to bring back the life of the feathers?
I believe they are real feathers. And I believe they are died because they are blue, green and white (sort of striped)? But they aren't like regular stiff feathers, they are the whispy kind. They are obviously all attached in the center around some cotton thing or something with wires.
I meant dyed. The toy was cheap, but I was hoping there might be a way to refluff. Just looks better that way. The cats still play with it, but I don't think they are AS intrigued now because it's not as whispy.
My cats outside have killed birds before and brought them to the porch as pets, but I have no pet birds inside, and if I did, I wouldn't let the cats near em!

Yes, as long as the feathers are real feathers and are not actually broken, there is a way!
What you need to do is grasp each feather at its base with one hand, place the thumb and forefinger of your other hand around the feather at the point where it meets the spine and gently but firmly stroke outwards in the same direction that the feathers lie. Gradually work your way up to the tip of the feather doing this then start again on the other side at the base. Do this for each feather. (Best to do the stroking bit with the hand you write with, I find.)
It will be best if you haven't washed your hands for a while before you do this, then you are putting your natural oils on to the feather. Essentially, what you are doing is imitating what birds do when they groom.
It will take ages but is a very relaxing thing to do, almost meditative - good luck!
