Anyone out there with a cat who has feline arthritis?
My cat was just diagnosed with having feline arthritis. She is 5 years old and relatively young, so this came as a surprise. However, we don't think its very severe but I'm glad that we now know. Is there any advice anyone has that has a cat with arthritis? What can I do for pain relief when she gets a "flare up" and are there any preventative measures I can take? My vet suggested some supplements for bone and joint health, are there any that you would suggest? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!
Cosequin is commonly given to cats with arthritis. It is glucosamine and chondriotin in a flavored capsule. It is not prescription. My cat got the equivalent every other day, and I didn't even have to disguise it. No people pain killers without the specific instructions of a vet, as most people pain medications are quite toxic to a cat. Tylenol can kill a cat.
Now at her age, if she seems to limp on her back foot, and stretches her back leg out and shakes it, it is due to arthritis, but not as you might think of it. It really means the groove in her bone is shallow, and a muscle sheaf pops out of it. Shaking her leg is to get the muscles back into the groove. Cosequin can really help if this is the condition.
