How should you pick up a kitten/cat?
i've heard that you should pick up a cat/kitten by the neck normally but i pick my kitten up by its stomach.
someone tell me what ones right please?
Kittens can be picked up by the scruff, which is the area of extra skin at the base of the neck, further away from the head. It is how a mother cat carries her offspring, and is especially good if your kitten needs to be taught who is in charge.
Adult cats can be picked up by the scruff also, so long as they are not very heavy. My cat is four years old and seven pounds, so I occasionally pick her up this way, especially if she is hiding in a place that makes it awkward to grab her. However, you should still support them with your other hand held beneath their rear to ensure that you don't hurt them.
The best way, I think, to pick up an adult cat is to scoop them up. Place one hand underneath the chest, up by their "armpits" -- NOT under the stomach! -- and the other on the rear or supporting the back feet so they are cupped in your hand. Then just bring the cat up to your shoulder and let it drape itself; you'll be okay, no worries.
