Does the Emery Cat Scratcher Work?

I have a Siamese kitten, that gets caught on everything! She does not like car trips & visiting the vet, and I'm afraid to trim her nails myself. I saw the Emery Board Cat Scratcher advertised on TV, and was wondering if it really works? She has several other cat scratchers around the house, but they don't help. Has anyone had any luck with it?? Thanks.

Please do not waste your money on Emery Cat!

My cats received one for Christmas last year and like one of the other responders said, the only ting that interested my three cats about was the little fluffy thing - oh, and the tiny bag of catnip. Otherwise, it was entirely unused. Two other people had identical experiences with their cats and Emery Cat.

Some time after receiving Emery Cat I learned that it has the potential to injure cats in the unlikely event that they use it. Not only can claws become trapped in the material and tear as the cat tries to free itself but it can wear down and through the skin on a cat's pads.

It is not at all difficult to trim a cat's claws and the best time to begin is while it is a kitten. For a kitten you could probably get away with using human nail clippers. For an older kitten or an adult I suggest the scissors designed for cats nails which have a half moon indentation on each blade that closes around the nail.

When both you and the kitten are relaxed hold the kitten in your lap. Holding the clipper in one hand grasp a paw in the other and press down on a pad so the claw comes out. Then quickly clip only the curved tip. Repeat.

Then do a couple more the following day.
