OK so my dad said I couldn't get a bearded dragon or any reptile that uses a heat lamp because he thinks the energy bill will be too high, and he says that they stink and have salmonella . Well I want a SMALL pet that doesn't stink THAT bad and doesn't carry terrible germs. Rabbits are a no. Dogs, cats, no. And I can't handle a fish. So I want a pet that is small, can stay in a cage, doesn't stink too bad, and doesn't have E. coli, plus it doesn't need any thermal energy. I was thinking about a chinchilla...? But they seem a lot like rabbits, which don't smell too great.... So if you guys have any suggestions please tell me! And if you know can you tell me the ups and downs about chinchillas? To be completely honest I would suggest a rat as they are brilliant pets! Although I am aware that not all parents like the idea of a rat in their house so maybe you could consider a Gerbil, they are great to handle and so cute. I have had Chinchillas for the past ten years and I think based on what you said, although they may be a smaller animal, they need a large cage and believe me, if this will be in your bedroom then it may keep you awake! Also consider that when an animal is smelling, its overdue a clean out!
