cat scratch post substitute?

Greetings

I have a cat who loves to scratch my sofa arms. I got a scratch post and it helps, but now I am also getting a Lazy-Boy and I really don't want to see those posts all over the furniture.
Dose someone have any home solution? Vinegar, essential oils? etc.

Cats have scent glands on their front paws, so when they scratch something, they leave their scent behind and will continue to scratch in that area. Cleaning that area thoroughly will remove the scent and help them stop scratching there.
Since you said you are getting new furniture, your cat should not scratch it because it does not have its scent there. But there are some precautions you can take to prevent it from happening at all.

Cats hate the smell of citrus, so try spraying your furniture with anything that has a citrus scent to it.
Try getting some catnip in spray form and spraying it onto a scratching post. This will attract the cat more towards it and could help it stop scratching the furniture.
Trimming a cat's claws will dull them and lessen the damage they can do when scratching. Don't trim them too far down, though, as you could seriously injure your cat.
Claw caps are an easy solution. They are little caps that you put on your cat's claws to keep them from scratching. They are comfortable and cats don't mind them.
There are sprays you can buy at any pet store to spray on your furniture. You won't be able to smell it, but is smells awful to cats and will keep them away from your furniture.

Most of these are not home solutions, I know, but the citrus one is the only one I've ever found.

And for the love of God, DO NOT declaw your cat. Declawing is not removing the claws, it is the surgical amputation of the first joint of their toes and is excruciatingly painful. The pain can last for months after the surgery! And it does more physical damage to your cat than it does good for your furniture!
