Cat scratching problem?
I have three cats, two use the sisal post like they are supposed to, the other uses one of the slanted cardboard scratchers. The problem is, that when my third cat (the one who ONLY uses the cardboard post) goes to use the scratcher, one of my other cats goes over and swats at him. It seems to be deterring him from using it, even tho he is obviously trying. All 3 cats are 2 years old, neutered, and from the same litter so raised together. Anyone have any advice to get the one cat to leave the other alone when its trying to use the awesome post I got for it? It seems to be annoying cat #3 and he will go elsewhere to try to find solace and not use the post like hes supposed to. Which, lately, has been my bed and I am a little annoyed. Suggestions?
My suggestion is to get another scratching post, and put it by your bed. If need be, get a third post, as well. That way the other two cats won't be able to succeed at bully #3 away from all of them all the time. It seems like even though they grew up together, now that they are grown up, they want a bit more separate territories. So they are each going to be wanting some spaces of their own, and you may have to create those spaces for them. Three hidey-hole type kitty condos, or cat beds, in different areas of your home, perhaps even going so far as putting their food dishes near their respective hidey-holes.
And you may wish to look into using Feliway to keep things calm.
