I shop at my local livestock food store - I am in Alberta.. and gotta tell you - if your cat is chubby/fat excersise alone wont help.. your cat NEEDS better food...

all the foods from grocery / walmart and some from big box stores use FAT as a trick - your cat eats the food and gets a shiny coat.. you think " Great shiny coat means healthy cat" and keep feeding
BUT most of these foods are mostly filler (corn and by-products beaks feet feathers) so the cat has to eat LOTS of food to get full nutrition.. so it eats more fat too!!! and soon is fat..

consider switching to a better food - like Acana or Nutram if the cat is REALLY fat go with a senior diet which will reduce weight - unless kitty is under 2 yrs... both thse foods are made in Canada so are cheaper than American brands of similar quality.. Acana is far superior to Iams and where I live its $3 cheaper than Iams!!! plus if you buy 10 bags you get 1 free (like buy 1 at a time and the store keeps track on a card for you)
