Why does Tide clothes detergant not make your clothes smell good after using arm hammer baking soda detergent?
ok so i been using armin hammer clothes detergent for years on my clothes and all of sudden i used tide and it brought out this weird smell so i had to wash them all again with arm hammer baking soda
Tide is a very strong detergent, and shouldn't be used regularly, if at all. It's OK to use once in awhile on clothing and/or bedding that is heavily soiled, but for everyday use, it's way too harsh.
I suspect that what happened is that, since you'd been using a fairly gentle detergent (Arm & Hammer), the Tide lifted the built-up detergent residue that accumulates over time. I imagine THAT's what you were smelling ... essentially, stale soap! An extra rinse would probably have gotten the last bit of that smell out, but some of it most likely stayed in the clothes if they didn't rinse completely.
Tide is the strongest detergent that is commercially available to the public. The only stronger detergents are those manufactured specifically for hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, etc., and commercial-cleaning businesses (places that would handle a lot of biological and/or oil-based stains).
Using white vinegar in the rinse is a better way to eliminate detergent residue ... it's also harmless to both septic systems and municipal sewers ... keeps the washer clean ... and keeps clothes looking newer longer!
