My kitty is in the heat?
My kitty is about 5-6 months old and has the symptons of being in the heat. What can I expect? Is there anything I should do? And is it normal for a kitty this young to be in the heat? I hadn't really thought about getting her "sprayed" because she is young. And how long will she be in the heat?
Thanks, this is my first cat. My family did have another cat while I was growing up but I don't remember her ever being in heat or anything. So this is all very new for me.....
That is not at all too young for kitty to be in heat. Females in heat will meow / yowl very loudly a LOT, so much that it almost drives you crazy. They will roll around on the ground and expose their tummies. Quite often if you try to pick them up they will run away from you, when normally they would let you pick them up otherwise. Heat can last for just a few days or even a week or two. They can go out of it, and then come back into heat again suddenly and irregularly. DONT let your kitty outside if she is behaving this way. She will attract the attention of un-neuterred tom cats in the neighborhood and will do her best to let them impregnate her... then you will have more kitties to deal with!! I would strongly suggest you seriously consider getting your kitty spayed. If money is an issue, most communities have a few vets willing to perform the surgery for a reduced price or even for free. If you have a local animal shelter or animal rescue group they can ususally give you names of vets willing to do this.
