why are there worm things in my bird seeds?
well i have a zebra finch and a budgie.i got the seeds from a normal pet store not one of those big branded ones like fish and feathers.and i got 17kg so i don't want to throw it out.i have been using this for a few weeks then when i went to refill up the container there where these spider webs or string things and there where worms attached to it with seeds!!!!i was so freaked out!!!what do i do??do i have to chuck them out?pick them off??throwing out all the seeds is not an option so please help!!!
uhhh no there not meal worms because there attached to a spider web or string and i dont think meal worms are stuck to string are they??
hi pocky the seeds are for both finches and budgies and we were planning to throw it when my budgie ate one so is it good for it to eat them there about 1cm long
The eggs of these grain weevles are in all grains....they lay their eggs in there when the grain is developing....if the grain is stored in a hot area the eggs hatch.....here in the states it is hard to find grain in the summer that don't have them in it.......the dealer that I get my seed from keeps his warehouse cooled in the summer time and it has helped drasticly.....the larve eat the inside of the seed as they mature.......the seed still has a little dietary bennifit but no where near as much....I would return it and complain....if you will look closely at the bags there will sometimes be tiny holes in the paper bags and if they are plastic bags you can see the worms if you look closely.......
As far as feeding you budgie finch seed there is not a problem here....I mix 80% white millet, 5% wheat, 5% oat groats and 5% finch mix....I feed my bugies this and raise hundreds of babies a year with no other vitamins or extras.....as long as the seed is good they will be fine........
