Who invented the 1st electric underground train?

In the Victorian years around 1890??

Dr Edward Hopkinson designed the trains on the first underground railway the City and South London service in 1890, as you say. Some of the carriages were made by Mather and Platt, a company that is still operational , as far as I know. These were an improvement on the first underground trains on the Circle Line, also in London, which ran on steam - the early tunnels had ventilation openings all along their length and were consequently shalllow. The C&SL was the first of the proper deep level tube lines - which would have been impossible to run on coal without asphyxiating everyone.

The line later became the city branch of the present day Northern Line.
