cap and trade is a monumental mistake. it's essentially a tax; although disguised as a requirement on companies that will pass it to consumers... so while obama will not technically raise taxes on the middle class, it will raise the amount of money in bills the average person has to pay every month.
the 'carbon credits' sold will be managed be a private company, GE. so the government won't even receive the profit from the selling of 'credits' to private companies to use to cut our taxes in some way to compensate for the obligatory rise in prices.
aside from that, it is a list of new requirements for selling homes that home owners will have to obey if it keeps the verbage created by the House. things like 'energy efficient' windows, doors, water heaters, furnaces and insulation will have to be installed prior to sale as well as a new air conditioner that no longer uses standard freon. in effect, it tacts on about $15,000 to $20,000 in renovations to a home by the seller before they are legally able to complete a sale.
in short, mostly politicians and idiots think it's a good plan. they have this naive idea that these 'big bad companies should pay'. well, they will... but in order to retain their profit margin, they will do what EVERY company does and pass the increase to consumers and lay off employees. the company in the end will not be hurt by this, only the workers and consumers... ie - US.
if you have any common sense, you'd see that this is a terrifyingly ignorant choice... the previous poster noted Spain... and it's true. Spain already has a system like this, look at how it's screwed their economy. Just because we're the US, doesn't make us impervious to jackass decisions.
