Any idea on our packs organization. Does my puppy figures out he's a beta or what???
My 8 months lil puppy is a quite obedient guy, he understands hand and voice orders, and follow most of the time (is still a puppy so, not perfect). He's quiet and doesn't yap or beg for food. However, when the thing is with my husband, my puppy doesn't always obeys, he begs and sometimes even yaps. He's actually more playful with my husband than with me, but when we need the pup to do something or to stop, he only listens to me. I don't know why he's like that. Moreover, I'm the only person who can trim his paws and nails. I wanted him to be the omega at home but I don't think he's catching up. Any idea of what's going on???
Yes, I think he sees my husband as another puppy, to play with, bite and share food. I don't want my dog to become spoiled.
Were you the one most active in his training? If that is the case then he will be more likely to listen to you than your husband. Have your husband start working with him on training and make it a joint effort. Even if your pup is an expert in his formal training he still needs practice and this where your husband comes in. This may even help with the yapping. Also, your husband should follow through on all his commands. If he doesn't then that could be a problem too. Just like with kids there has to be follow through. You don't have to punish him just help him to stop, sit, or whatever it you want him to do. Sometimes they just need to be reminded what the correct behavior is. Your husband should do this not you. As far as begging...do you have a "no people food by hand rule"? If you do did you follow it and your husband not? All it takes is one piece of people food by hand to reinforce the behavior and then it is not so easy to break. I have a begger and he will always be one but I don't have a "no people food rule". I am a pushover in that respect. He only gets a little and he is NOT overweight...moderation is key.
