How would you get your adult cats to eat adult food, and your kittens to eat kitten food?
I have three adult cats two kittens (fostering one) and 1 dog. The adult cats eat the kitten food, and the kittens eat the dog food, and the dog eats both adult and kitten food. How do I get them to eat the right types of food.
You can keep the adults cats out of the kitten food by creating a feeding station.... take a box and cut a hole in it big enough for the kittens to get in... but not the bigger cats... put the kitten food bowl in there. As for keeping the kittens out of the dog food.... other than feeding them in separate rooms and limiting their access... there's not much you can do.
You COULD train them that when you make a specific sound it's feeding time and then remove the food 1/2 hour later so that they have to eat when it's time to eat, instead of leaving food out.... and put them in separate rooms to do that.... or you can accept that a bit of dog food won't hurt the kittens (as long as they're getting enough kitten food to get the taurine and other nutrients they need) and not worry about it too much.
