Any other ways to get your cat not to catch birds/mice?
My parents' cat, Otis, had has bell collar fall off the other day, and it was a nice couple of days- he caught and brought back two birds and a mouse! (Not into the house, but the front/back garden.)
He's ten years old so we were hoping he had slowed down, but I guess only the bell was stopping him from catching anything- is there any other ways we can stop or hinder him? We've put a new collar on him with a buckle rather than a 'safety' clip, which will help.
I know, they're 'gifts', and they don't effect me- I'm not at home. My parents are.
He actually normally wears a buckle (with enough space to get a finger through) and the first time he wore a safety clip it came off when he was just strolling around the house, making the damn thing pointless.
Laura, safety clips are for a reason. Please go back to using them.
The only TRUE way to deter this is to keep him in the house.
If he's an outdoor cat, then stop feeding him so much and he will eat his "prizes" instead of showing them off to you.
Cat's naturally hunt, and as much as we would like to deny it, it happens.
