My dog has been throwing up after I give him a dog treat...what kinds are better for him?
I have tried the CESAR chicken dog treats, the chicken strips dog treats, and rawhide...all of which he has thrown up. Yes, I took him to the vet, they gave him medicine, inserted some medicine liquid under his skin for dehydration and said otherwise he was fine.
Any suggestions on dog treats that dont cost $20 (lol) that I could give him? He is a Lhasa Poo, male, 13 pounds full grown.
And yes I can tell its his treat making him sick, because the treat (which is small) comes out in 2 or 3 pieces and its able to be identified
It was a natural rawhide from one of those nature stores, not the cheap kind
AKC- Yes, a Lhasa poo and I love him...no need to make fun of his breed or that he is a mixed breed. Plenty of mixed breed dogs out there...
1. Any kind of rawhide can cause intestinal blockages/perforations if they're eaten. Unless you have several thousand dollars stashed away somewhere for emergency surgery, I wouldn't give them. The same goes for bones.
2. Some dogs have extremely sensitive stomachs and just can't handle changes in diet, including new treats, different food, people food, etc. If your dog is one of these, I would be VERY cautious in giving treat no matter what the brand is or what the box claims. Treats for sensitive stomachs, etc. tend to be expensive, so if you can't afford them and other treats are causing your dog problems, don't give any treats.
3. Is your dog still vomiting? If so, try not giving him food/water for 24 hours. This will give his gut time to calm down and heal itself. Since your dog got subcutaneous fluids, you shouldn't have to worry about dehydration, etc. for about a day unless he is vomiting excessively even after you've stopped giving him food and water.
