What kinds of spots do cats look for when they need a place to have their kittens?
So my cat is pregnant.I made a nice and cozy spot that I would like her to have them in but I wonder if it will be to her liking or if I need to have more than one.She is an indoor cat but got herself pregnant when she sneeked outside.
Then spot I made for her is two boxes combined into one with soft blankets and towels.We want her to have the kittens in spare room because we have two other cats and don't want bad things happening to the babies.So I put a litterbox,fresh food and water and all her favorite things in there.She is allowed to roam for another week or two outside of the room but not long after that.So will she have her kittens in the box or do I need to make agustments?She does like the box.She is laying in it right now sleeping.
Cats do like quite places away from the normal noise and traffic in your home and they will choose for themselves where to have their kittens. However if all three of your cats play and interact with each other on a regular daily basis you may not want to separate them. They will be the first to realize when she is in labor and they will probably come to let you know. If you separate them before she is ready they could become stressed out wondering where she is and she will wonder where they are.
If she is laying in the boxes now then she is comfortable in that space and she may use it. Where ever she has the kittens it is best to give her time alone with them so she can bond with them and feed them.
Reduced stress is the key for all three cats and you.
keep the room for her but leave the door open a little so you can monitor her while still giving her space. Just remember to enjoy this time. Its an exciting time for all of you and the kittens will be running your home soon
