We've had 2 cats for 6 years (1 male, 1 female). Is it OK to adopt another, young male cat? Will it work out?
We currently have one male and one female that we have had for 6 years.
Male is about 9 yrs. He is very easy going and friendly as can be.
Female about 5-6 years. She is very dominant and is in charge of everything.
Both are in great health and live indoors. Both are obscenely, terribly spoiled ROTTEN with love and affection 24 hours a day. They live like Prince and Princess in our home.
Recently we had a stray coming around. We've normally taken strays to the animal shelter, but this one (a young, healthy male) just put a hook in us. We are having him fixed, bathed, dewormed, and vaccinated. And we're going to attempt to introduce him into our home.
Any tips, info, or advice?
Do you think this will work out okay?
We are hopeful. I think our male will be cool with things. Our female might have a different attitude, but maybe once she establishes her dominance all will be OK. That's what we are hoping for.
Any advice or comments?
There may be a problem between the two males with regards to territory. However try it out and give it a lot of time unless they are attacking one another of course. The most easy going of male cats have problems adjusting to a cat of the same gender however it will all probably work out with time and patience!
