Is there such a thing as a pet cosleeper for your bed?
We recently needed to downsize our bed and lost about 8 inches of width. My cat has always slept with me, and I hate to kick him out of the bed (my husband isn't asking me to, either, as he only sleeps on my side). The problem is that I'm having sleep difficulties, as well as having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and the cat keeps me from moving about at night, which wakes me, and also makes my joints stiff and painful throughout the night. I'd like to get a cosleeper, but don't want to pay $200, not to mention they're bulky and impractical. Do they make a pet bed (or baby cosleeper) that latches onto the edge of your bed like the windowsill bed? Surely they must, since they make window beds and radiator beds. It would only seem rational that they would also make something to give pets room to sleep with their owners without crowding. There are people so crazy about their dogs that they make steps for little dogs to get onto the bed. Why not this? But, I can't find one!
There are baby cosleepers that latch on to the side of the bed, but your cat wouldn't be up against your body, so I doubt that he would stay in one. You could put a heating pad in it, but a lifetime of living with cats says it wouldn't work.
You will sleep better if you go ahead and put the cat out of your room at night - and good sleep is extremely important for all of us with fibromyalgia. My cat hates being kept out of the room (she's 18), but she keeps me awake with either moving around or keeping me from moving.
We put a heating pad on her window perch and started leaving the blinds at that window up just enough for her to see out. We also keep that room totally dark so that she can see what's going on outside at night. It helps me deal with the guilt of kicking her out of the bed
