When my cat goes to bed, why does he keep pushing his paws into whatever he is sleeping on?
He keeps pushing his paws into whatever surface he sleeps on (his bed, my bed, the settee??).
It's called kneading, it's the movement that small kittens do near their mum cats teats when they are trying to get more milk out. It's a gesture that all cats do at some point in their adult age, it's very affectionate and it means that the cat is feeling warm, loved and affectionate as when he was a baby kitten being fed. So it's a good sign.
Some believe that the cat does that when they have been taken away from mama cat too young, but that isn't always the case.
