I bought a used pet mate fresh flow water fountain for my cat. I want to find out if I can sterilize it.?
What is the best way to sterilize the plastic that the pet fountain is made of. I read you can use diluted bleach but that it can leave a residue. What is the safest way to sterilize it since it is used.
I don't know anything about the pet it belonged to.
I would not use bleach. Even after it has been well rinsed bleach will leave an oder and most cats dislike the smell of bleach, so your cat may not use the fountain.
Clean it well with very hot water and use a detergent such as original Dawn. Rinse well and allow it to air dry.
Pet fountains are not that expensive and personally if I had concerns about the pet who had previously used it, I would simply purchase a new one.
